It seems so right and timely that humankind is now publicly and sincerely debating the many complex aspects involving the overall issue of human rights. In this last century of the old millennium we have seen and experienced the disappearance of many boundaries and borders, limits and restrictions. Almost without noticing it we have been ushered into a new kind of world and set of circumstances which now calls for our ate and corporate attention are called upon to accept the fact, not merely in theory but also in practice, that we all, wherever we may live, belong to the same interdependent whole, and that therefore the values I individually choose to live by will affect this whole. While some of us shy away from new buzz words such as globalisation and global neighbourhood we shall have to take to heart the essential truth they harbour, and perhaps even welcome-- this unprecedented opportunity to embrace in our consciousness the whole family to which we belong. It is with this in mind that one can be grateful for the ongoing debate regarding human rights and that these rights are increasingly being discussed in their relation to our individual and corporate responsibilities. Standing before the door into the new millennium all the props, the structures and the sense of order of old seem to have lost their power and influence over us. The individual human being is left to find the answers within as to what kind of new world we shall be building together, through the values applied in our daily lives and relationships.
