In October 2003 the publisher received the following message, from which these Rounds pages arise. Thanks to Marcus for his contribution! My name is Marcus Tristan Heathcock and I am one of Stanley Messenger's many grandsons! Stanley wrote a series of musical rounds (like canons) about each month of the year quite a long time ago. With Stanley's permission and co-operation I have published these musical rounds with the music software called Sibelius and Stanley and I would both be happy if they were available for download from his Glastonbury Archive page. They are in use in many Steiner schools and elsewhere, and I have introduced them to some people in Russia, where I am currently living. The round for May is particularly well-known and is very attractive music as well. Marcus Tristan Heathcock, St Petersburg |
In the 1960s Stanley wrote a series of musical Rounds. Rounds are explained by his musician grandson Marcus:
Although a round is, on the surface, a simple construction a single melodic line sung by each voice in turn but starting at intervals of a few notes or bars after each other, so as to set up a polyphony a good round, like anything else, is very hard to write. What I find fascinating is that such a wealth of musical material can thus be generated from a single melody. Marcus Tristan Heathcock
