There's a big debate about Glastonbury's weekly market. For twenty years it was located in St John's car park, behind the High Street. It was successful in the 1980s and then declined so, during 2005, it was relocated in the old Market Square and Magdalene Street - and most traffic was removed on market days.
This revitalised the market and added to community spirit. But local shop-owners complained, because trade dropped off significantly during market day (Tuesday), for everyone except cafe owners! So there's a choice between prioritising the market and the shop owners.
